Congress Resurgence In Nirmal, Khanapur On The Cards, Tough Fight In Sirpur For TRS

The Sirpur assembly constituency in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district was represented by Koneru Konappa, who won as a BSP candidate and later joined the TRS, in the recently dissolved Telangana Legislative Assembly. In the 1,87,963 vote strong electorate, Konappa defeated the then TRS candidate Kaveti Sammaiah by 8,837 votes. In the 2014 election, the constituency recorded an impressive voter turnout of nearly 80 per cent.

With Palvai Harish Babu in the fray from the Congress, it appears to be a tough contest between him and the TRS nominee in the upcoming elections.

On the other side, Allola Indrakaran Reddy, who also won as a BSP candidate from Nirmal assembly constituency and later joined the TRS, is facing an anti-incumbency wave. He was inducted into the KCR cabinet following his joining the ruling party in 2014. Senior Congress leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy poses a tough challenge to the caretaker minister in the December 7 polls. With a margin of 8,497 votes in an electorate with 2,05,983 votes, Indrakaran Reddy defeated Maheshwar Reddy in the 2014 polls. The constituency falls under Nirmal district.

The Khanapur assembly constituency in Komaram Bheem district is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes (STs). Former Adilabad MP Rathod Ramesh is in contention for the seat as a Congress candidate this time, after switching loyalties to the national party from TDP recently. Ramesh is a serious opponent to sitting MLA from TRS, Ajmeera Rekha Naik, who won with a majority of 38,811 votes over Ramesh's son, Rathod Ritesh in 2014.
