TRS May Romp Home In Bhongir
Bhongir constituency is among the 12 constituencies in Nalgonda district and falls under the Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituency. It was represented in the recently dissolved House by Pailla Shekhar Reddy of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) who unseated Uma Madhava Reddy of the TDP. His nearest rival, J. Balakrishna Reddy of the Yuva Telangana Party (YTP) lost by by well over 15,000 votes to the TRS candidate, in the wave which swept all over Telangana in which the TRS rode to power in 2014. Pailla Shekhar Reddy is seeking relection and faces the Congress candidate, Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy. Bhongir has close to 1,80,000 voters and registered a high voter turnout of over 85% in the 2014 polls.
In all likelihood, the TRS candidate should romp home, with much ado. It must be recalled that for four terms through the 80s and 90s, Bhongir was represented by her husband, former minister A. Madhava Reddy. The TDP once had a fairly large vote share here, but has lost its hold on the constituency over the years. In a multi-pronged contest, the TRS in spite of all the talk of anti-incumbency should retain Bhongir.
