Kammas Up In Arms Against Congress
Hyderabad: The Congress is facing the wrath of rebels ever since the announcement of its 75 candidates list. Few ticket aspirants who were disappointed after being sidelined by the party have decided to contes as rebels. With division of constituencies among the Mahakutami allies, some of the candidates had to step back. Few others have even quit the party after the alliance was announced.
Several Congress leaders including Karthik Reddy, Bikshapathi Yadav, Dr. Rohin Reddy and Kyama Mallesh are all set to contest as independent candidates.
Ex minister Sabitha Indra Reddy is contesting from Maheswaram and her son Karthik Reddy who sought the Rajendranagar ticket, has now threatened to quit the party after being denied the ticket. His supporters damaged the Congress party’s publicity material, after the seat was allotted to Telugu Desam. Karthik Reddy said he has sent a letter to the party and if the Congress did not announce his name, he would go ahead and resign.
Speaking to media, Karthik Reddy said, “I’m resigning from the membership of the party and the campaigning committee. If I don’t receive the B-Form, then Congress should accept my resignation.”
He added, “TRS leader Prakash Goud spread the word that I was not going to get the ticket. I didn’t believe him and was confident that the party will give it to me. But the Telugu Desam announced its candidate and TRS leaders celebrated their victory in advance. Telugu Desam president L. Ramana has sold the ticket for money.”
Congress Ibrahimpatnam seat aspirant Kyama Mallesh said "The party screening committee had demanded money for allotting him a ticket.”
He said, “Congress leaders should feel embarrassed when talking about the Chandrasekhar Rao family rule when the tickets in the Congress are also distributed to family members. A community has taken most of the tickets by betraying the BC community.”
Former MLA Bikshapathi Yadav was the ticket aspirant from Serilingampally but the seat is allocated to Telugu Desam. He said "I would file the nomination as an independent candidate on November 17."
Dr Sravan Dasoju has been allocated Khairatabad ticket from Congress, which Rohin Reddy was aiming for, he is also preparing to contest as an independent.
Apart from this, former mayor of Hyderabad Karthika Reddy protested in Delhi demanding a ticket to contest from Secunderabad.
Kamma community leaders too are not happy with the Congress as the party had not nominated anyone from the community in the first two lists. As a consolation to the community, Congress appointed Jetti Kusum Kumar as one of the working presidents.
Rasoon Khan, former chairman of the Minorities Commission said the community was given only four tickets out of 75 seats declared so far. “Muslims have been ignored. We are ready to quit the party if Muslims are not allotted tickets. At least one Muslim should be given a ticket in each of the erstwhile districts of Telangana state,” he added.
