TRS Will Find The Going Tough In Nakrekal  

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi may find the going tough in Nakrekal (SC-reserved) constituency, one of the 12 constituencies in Nalgonda, this time around. It may be recalled that the TRS candidate Vemula Veeresham, unseated his Congress rival and sitting MLA at that time, Chirumarthi Lingaiah in 2014, with a slender margin of 2,340 votes. Veeresham, who has to counter a powerful anti-incumbency backlash now, is not going to find it easy to surmount the challenges.

The Congress, as of now, is yet to get its act, together. If it hands the seat over to Telangana Inti Party, as media reports on seat-sharing suggest, the grand old party will be conceding a fair amount of the goodwill it enjoys to the Inti Party candidate. But by doing so, it is complicating matters for itself. Congressmen privately say that parting with a strong seat such as Nakrekal is a sign of infighting in the party.

The Congress has a powerful presence in most of the mandals in the constituency including Nakrekal, Ramannapet, Kattangur, Narketpally and Choutuppal. Moreover, Lingaiah is a staunch follower of the Komatireddy brothers, Venkat Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy. In fact, Rajagopala Reddy has gone so far as to say that he would not contest if his acolyte is denied the Nakrekal ticket. It remains to be seen whether the TPCC leadership would blink and retain the ticket with the Congress or let go of it.
