BJP To Pit ABVP Muslim Leader Syed Shahezadi Against Akbaruddin Owaisi In Chandrayanagutta
Hyderabad: In all likelihood, the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will field a strong candidate, ABVP's young Muslim leader Syed Shahezadi, against former MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen) floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in Chandrayangutta constituency.
The 25-year-old MA political science graduate from Osmania University has been offered party ticket in Chandrayangutta by BJP President Dr K Laxman. Shahezadi, who is currently pursuing Masters in Hindi from Koti Women's College, is expected to garner votes of the educated and business class in the constituency.
Although it is not perceived as a cake walk for a fresh candidate to compete with a popular leader like Akbaruddin, the BJP cadre is hopeful of giving a tough fight to the four-time MLA. Several residential areas in the constituencies will support Shahezadi despite the MIM's stronghold in other areas, a BJP leader said.
It may be recalled that in the list of 105 TRS contestants for the upcoming elections announced by Telangana caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), all the seven constituencies with an incumbent MIM MLA have been excluded. Akbaruddin, with a voting percentage of 59%, defeated MBT leader Khyam Khan in the 2014 elections.
