Odelu Supporter Dies Over Denial Of TRS Chennur Ticket

Hyderabad: Regunta Gattaiah, an associate of former Chennur MLA Nallala Odelu, lost his life while undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet here today. Gattaiah was admitted to the hospital after he suffered serious burns in his attempt to commit suicide in protest against the denial of party ticket to Odelu.

Telangana caretaker CM and TRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) after dissolving the Legislative Assembly, announced the list of 105 candidates who will contest in the upcoming Assembly elections. The name of sitting TRS MLA from Chennur, Nallala Odelu was missing. The ticket was given to Peddapalli MP, Balka Suman.

Last week, when Balka Suman was about to launch his election campaign at Indaram village of Jaipur Mandal, Gattaiah attempted suicide by setting himself on fire. The TRS worker suffered third degree burns all over his body. Local CI Narayana Naik who was present on the spot tried to douse the fire and also suffered burn injuries in the process.

Also, MPTC member Srinivas and several party members Thogari Srinivas, Jakkula Venkatesh, Bhaskarla Srikanth and others suffered injuries when Gattaiah threw petrol at them before seeting himself on fire.

On Sunday, Odelu met KCR and discussed the issues concerning the party's election campaign and his suuport to Balka Suman. Odelu said he would work towards ensuring TRS's win in Chennur, after meeting the TRS Chief.
