Telangana Govt To Waive Loans of Dubbaka Handloom Weavers

Siddipet: Telangana IT and Urban Development Minister, KT Rama Rao on Thursday visited Dubbaka and inspected the handloom sector in the mandal head quarters. The minister planned the sudden visit to the town while he was on his way to his constituency, Rajanna Siricilla district from Hyderabad.

The Textile Minister met the handloom weavers, who poured their woes to KTR on the debts they were trapped in. They also apprised him of the problems they had been facing on everyday basis.

KTR assured the handloom workers of waiving the loans of Rs 1.5 crore they had taken for the year 2012-13. The minister also announced Rs 1 crore for the welfare of the weavers.

The handloom weavers association of Dubbaka appreciated the minister's gesture and his prompt response by agreeing to waive the loan. The minister also assured them of getting requisite funds sanctioned to the workers.

KTR also took to twitter and announced the promises made during his visit to the handloom sector. "Interacted with several handloom weavers in Dubbaka town. Agreed to their request for extending working capital support & ensuring the loan waiver covers more families," he tweeted.

The minister also ordered the local party leaders to set up a weavers corporation at Dubbaka.

The Telangana government have been encouraging the handloom weavers by providing subsidy on the raw materials and chemicals.
