Telangana Government's BC Creamy Layer Diktat Evokes Protests
Hyderabad: Students, BC organizations and political parties opposed the Telangana government's BC creamy layer GO which keeps out the economically advanced people from reservation quota in recruitments.
Several BC organizations held protests and burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao describing the creamy layer order as anti-BC measure.
The BC Creamy Layer issue kept in abeyance by the Telangana government for sometime has cleared it paving the way for the pending recruitments in various departments. The appointment process for candidates who already cleared the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) examinations was stalled due to the pending of the GO.
The government has orders to all district collectors to issue related certificates to unemployed youth from the BC category. As per the government directions BCs who are earning more than Rs. 6 lakh are not eligible for reservations in job appointments. They will be considered as the OCs. However, BCs who earn more than Rs. 6 lakhs from agricultural activities and those who earn wages of Rs. 6 lakhs per annum will be considered for reservations. If they earn more than Rs. 6 lakh per annum from 'other sources', they will be included in the BC Creamy Layer category.
TDP leader Revanth Reddy also wrote a letter to the CM demanding the withdrawal of the GO. Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao in a statement demanded the withdrawal of the creamy layer GO stating that it would hamper the opportunities for the BCs.
