Telangana Farmers Can Purchase Seeds Using Old Rs 500 Notes

Hyderabad: In a major relief to farmers, they can now purchase seeds from state-owned outlets using the old Rs 500 notes.

Besides using them at units of central and state governments and PSUs, the decommissioned notes would also be accepted for purchase of seeds from National and State Seeds Corporations, agriculture universities and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research on production of identity proof

The state government on Monday issued orders to accept the old notes after the centre gave clearance in order to mitigate farmers woes.

"Besides using them at units of central and state governments and PSUs, the decommissioned notes would also be accepted for purchase of seeds from National and State Seeds Corporations, agriculture universities and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research on production of identity proof," Agriculture Secretary C Parthasarathi said in a release.
