Andhra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy today said that instances like vandalism of statues of national leaders during agitations for the united state will be dealt sternly.
Referring to the ongoing protests by supporters of united Andhra Pradesh against creation of Telangana in Seemandhra (Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema) regions, the DGP said that no one can infringe on the rights of individuals and create lawlessness. ...as long as it (agitations) is well within the democratic process no one will have objection, the top cop said in a release. Stating that it was highly objectionable and unbecoming to indulge in vandalism of statues of the national leaders, the DGP said such persons and those behind these acts will be dealt with very seriously.
During yesterday's shutdown in the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions, statues of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were damaged, allegedly by the supporters of united state, at a few places particularly in Ananthpur district.
