Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: The Parliamentary panel on information technology Monday summoned Jack Dorsey, CEO of micro blogging site Twitter, to appear before it on February 25, according to the committee’s chairman.

Sources said the panel members took a serious note about the Twitter head not appearing before it on Monday.

The parliamentary panel on information technology, headed by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, had summoned Twitter officials on 1 February over the issue of safeguarding citizens’ rights on social media platforms.

Representatives from the India office of Twitter had reached the Parliament annex to attend the panel’s scheduled meeting but they were not called into the meeting.Thakur said Dorsey and other representatives have now been “summoned” to appear before it on February 25.

The committee meeting was initially scheduled for February 7 but was later postponed to February 11 to allow the Twitter CEO and senior officials more time to make themselves available, the sources had said on Saturday.

Twitter had earlier cited “short notice of the hearing” as the reason for its top executives not not appearing, despite being given 10 days to travel, the sources said. The Parliamentary IT Committee had on February 1 clearly stated that “it may be noted that the Head of the Organisation has to appear before the Committee”. It further stated that “he/she may be accompanied by another representative.”

Twitter’s conduct is being watched globally and their response is being seen with concern as India’s Parliamentary hearing is amongst the fourth in the world after the US Congress, Singapore and EU hearing.
