Hyderabad: A US-based techie Md Abdul Layeeq on Tuesday assaulted his wife's advocate Syed Lateef at Nampally Family Court.

The techie attacked the advocate Lateef from behind and hit him hard on his back and neck while he was talking to one of his client.

Layeeq, a software professional got married to complainant in 2003. In 2004, the techie went to US and came back to India in 2009. In 2010 he gave 'talaq' to his wife and filed a petition to seek custody of his two children. Meanwhile, the wife filed a petition of maintenance and domestic violence case against him.

The maintenance case came up for hearing on Tuesday before the additional metropolitan sessions judge in the family court. Layeeq's case was argued by junior advocate and this was opposed by the petitioner's advocate Lateef and the case was adjourned to January 6, 2016.

Advocate Lateef said that as they came out of the court hall the techie beat him up. Following this the advocate filed complaint against Layeeq with Nampally police. Nampally inspector Madhumohan Reddy said that as it was a non-cognizable offence action would be taken upon the investigation.

Advocates at Nampally, Rangareddy and Malkajgiri courts observed strike and stopped the court activities on Tuesday after the assault took place. They also protested against the incident by wearing black badges at City Civil Courts.
