TDP Government ignores Shobha Nagireddy

The Telugu Desam Government has kicked up a storm of controversy when the legislative affairs committee’s agenda had provisions for paying homage to Nandigama’s TDP MLA Tangirala Prabhakar, who died recently and ignored Allagadda MLA from the YSRCP Shobha Nagireddy, who died before the elections, but was declared elected posthumously.

YSRCP MLAs, who met on Wednesday, took up this issue and demanded that Shobha Nagireddy’s name too be included for obituary reference. YSRCP MLAs Bhuma Nagireddy and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy strongly criticized the government for the partisan attitude. Shobha Nagireddy is a several time MLA, they reminded. (Post bifurcation, first session of AP Assembly begins tomorrow)

A truncated Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly will meet on Thursday for the first time after the separation of Telangana. The members will be sworn in first by protem speaker P Narayana Swami. Later, the house will pay homage to the departed MLAs.

The speaker would be elected on June 20 and the Governor will address the joint session of both the assembly and the council on June 21. The house would debate the motion of thanks to the governor on June 23 and 24.

Adequate security arrangements have been made for the assembly elections. Some 1200 police would be deployed during the session.
