Political leaders across the spectrum condemned the attack on an engineering student for an alleged post condemning the Kannada film actors who took part in a protest over Cauvery water dispute.

A video clip showing the boy being thrashed by several men went viral on the Internet and was also telecast by local channels in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

“Violence is not the solution. People of both states have to face issues in a compassionate manner.” AIADMK spokesperson C R Saraswathi reportedly said.

DMK MP and party spokesperson T K S Elangovan urged the Karnata ka government to take legal action against the assailants.

Condemning the incident, Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan, and MDMK chief Vaiko said Karnataka government should extend protection to Tamil people in that state
