Talk of prohibition an election stunt of AIADMK: Kanimozhi
Coimbatore: DMK leader and party Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi on Friday described the AIADMK's announcement that it would implement prohibition in a phased manner was an election stunt.
The announcement of AIADMK that it will bring in prohibition in phased manner is just an election stunt, as there is no other way for the ruling party, since all the political parties have announced it, she said in a poll campaign in support of her party candidates in Podanur, Vellalore and other places in the city.
If DMK chief M Karunanidhi was voted to power, his first order would be for implementation of prohibition, she said.
The DMK government had closed 1,300 liquor shops during its regime, she claimed. Alleging that the development of the state in all areas including industries and education has shown a negative growth during the past five years, Kanimozhi said the Government was not also interested in desilting the canals and lakes, which could have increased the water table across the state, helping the farmers and citizens.
On the DMK manifesto, Kanimozhi said it was prepared after eliciting opinions from all sections of the society and reflected their aspirations and needs, which would be fulfilled once the party came to power.
