Supreme Court Rejects Minister’s ‘Unconditional’ Apology

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected "unconditional apology" by Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan for his comments on a rape case, citing that it was not fully unconditional and asked him to file a fresh affidavit by December 15.

Samajwadi Party minister drew criticism over his remarks on infamous Bulandshahr gang-rape in July stating that the incident is a political conspiracy to malign his party.

The bench headed by Justices Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy said that women’s dignity cannot be compromised and directed the state government to ensure that the gang-rape survivor is admitted into a central school chosen by her father

Following the Apex Court order, Khan said that he will use word "remorse" in the fresh affidavit. To which the apex court said that it would "examine whether remorse is sufficient for tendering an unconditional apology".

The bench headed by Justices Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy said that women's dignity cannot be compromised and directed the state government to ensure that the gang-rape survivor is admitted into a central school chosen by her father.
