Hyderabad: The Telangana police was on Tuesday rattled for the second time this month with a sub-inspector committing suicide in Adilabad district.

K. Sridhar, who took charge as a sub-inspector just two days ago, shot himself in his head with his service revolver at his residence in Karimeri in Adilabad early on Tuesday .

His family and neighbours in the police quarters rushed him to the Asifabad hospital where he succumbed to the gun shot wound.

Sridhar belonged to Avunuru village in Mustabad mandal of Karimnagar.

Assistant superintendent of police Radhika told reporters at Adilabad later on Tuesday that Sridhar had committed suicide and did not die as a result of an accidental firing of his revolver. She also told the media that a suicide note was found by the police investigating the death.

However, Sridhar’s family members alleged that he was under severe pressure from his superior officers and because of this he took his life.

Sridhar’s is the second such suicide in the state in the past fortnight. On August 17, T. Ramakrishna Reddy , also holding a similar rank in the state police, and posted at the Kukunoorpally police station in chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s home district of Medak, shot himself with his service revolver.

While Sridhar said in his suicide note that he was undergoing a state of depression for over a year now, Ramakrishna had alleged harassment from senior officials in the department and said that he was taking his life because he was no longer able to bear the pressure.

As a consequence, director general of police Anurag Sharma ordered the transfer of Siddipet deputy superintendent of police Ch. Sridhar Goud and two inspectors whom Ramakrishna Reddy reportedly named in his suicide note. The transferred officials are attached to the DGP’s office to prevent them from influencing the investigation into the suicide.
