Students Drive Teenager to Suicide

Faced with constant harassment and threats from six college students, a teenager Rapolu Tirupathamma (17) committed suicide by hanging at her house in Veldurthy of Guntur district on Sunday.

She used to travel from Veldurthy to her Krishnaveni college in Macherla by bus. Six students from various other colleges also travel in the same bus everyday and resort to harassing her, according to a suicide note by Tirupathamma. They have been identified in the suicide note as Prem Raj Naik of Chakradar Degree College, Gibriyal Naik (Palnadu Junior College), Pavan (Veldurthy),  Adinarayana (Sirigiripadu), Venkatesh (Sirigiripadu) and Suresh (Palnadu Junior College). She also claimed in her note that Prem Raj Naik used to intoxicate girls and sexually harass them.

She resorted to the extreme step when her parents - Satyavati and Kondalu, both farm labourers, were working in the fields. They found Tirupathamma's body hanging from the fan, when they returned from the fields in the evening.

Police took possession of the suicide note and registered a case under the Nirbhaya Act. A manhunt has been lodged to nab the six absconding students.
