Student Unions Call For Osmania University Bandh Over Student’s Suicide
Hyderabad: In the wake of Post graduate student Eramaina Murali's suicide on the Osmania University campus, student unions have given a call for the shutdown of university on Monday.
Student leaders affiliated to ABVP, SFI and other unions demanded that the Telangana government announce an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the family members of Murali. The student was pursuing post graduation course in Physics. He hanged himself with nylon rope at Maneru hostel on Saturday evening after a brief discussion with his friends on issues related to unemployment and release of government job notifications.
Murali's father died when he was young and his mother is an agriculture labourer. The student unions also demanded a government job for his elder brother Raju. Five unemployed youths including Murali ended their lives in the past two months.
