Student Groups Clash On Satavahana University Campus Over Burning Of Manusmriti

Karimnagar: Clashes erupted between two groups of students affiliated to the right wing ABVP and leftist organizations after one group burnt the copies of Manusmriti as a symbolic of protest on the campus on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday.

As the news spread like wildfire, ABVP leaders and students gathered at the administrative building to stage a protest. Some students also attacked others believing that they belong to the group that burnt the Manusmriti. The police swung into action to bring the situation under control.

However, both the groups tried to attack each other with stones. The police arrested some students believed to be responsible for the burning of Manusmriti. Rumors were also doing the rounds that some students burnt the pictures of Bharat Mata. The situation on the campus was tense but under control.

This was the first such incident on Satavahana University campus which is known for calm atmosphere since its inception in 2008.
