Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) cracked the whip on a five-star hotel by slapping a fine of Rs 26,000 for using unstamped meat putting public health at risk. As part of their drive, the officers went to the hotel situated in Gachibowli only to find it flouting norms.

Dr Abdul Wakil assistant director added that the staff further said they failed to segregate waste into dry and wet categories, which was appalling. The hotel was further made to cough up Rs 13,65,600, which was due to the corporation, as part of their license fees.

This is not the first time that a five-star hotel has fallen foul of the law and has been penalized for violating norms. A star hotel in Madhapur was fined Rs. 30,000 sometime ago, for storing stale non-vegetarian food. Similarly, a popular restaurant at Punjagutta was sealed for an interim period last year following an inspection in which the team found stale food and unhygienic kitchen conditions.

It may be noted here that last year, the GHMC had conducted surprise inspections on various food outlets to check irregularities and violation of norms which would put citizens' health at risk.
