Sridevi’s Mother Tongue Was Telugu

Although Bollywood Diva Sridevi's meteoric rise to stardom happened in Bollywood, she had her roots in the Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh and that too in the temple town of Tirupati, which happened to be the native place of Sridevi's maternal grandparents.

Born to a Tamil father, who was a lawyer by profession and Telugu mother, Sridevi had spent her early life in Chennai. And after becoming the heroine in Bollywood, she slowly shifted Mumbai where she finally got married and settled.

House no. 93 in Theerthakattu Veedhi in Tirupati has a significance as it belongs to Sridevi's maternal grandfather — Venkataswamy Reddy. During her childhood, every vacation was spent at her grandfather's house in Tirupati. Sridevi's mother Rajeswari was one among the three daughters of Venkataswamy.

Later, the house was demolished and a new one was built in Theerthakattu Veedhi. Subsequently, she got busy with her film career and her frequent visit to Tirupati reduced. In an interview, Sridevi admitted that she has fond childhood memories of Tirupati including her friends, bylanes and grandfather.

On every August 13, Sridevi makes it a point to celebrate her birthday in Tirupati. She goes for a darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala. On every visit to Tirumala, she first drives to a hotel, then completes her dharshan at Tirumala, later invites her relatives to the hotel spends some time with them before leaving the place. With Boney Kapoor being a non-Telugu, relatives recalled he had nothing to speak much but just one word "namaste".
