Mahesh Babu’s performance equally enthralls Telugu and Tamil audience

Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu's much awaited ‘SPYder’ is out to entertain Telugu and Tamil audience all over the world this festive season. The movie released on Wednesday, two days ahead of the conventional Friday release, to enhance Dasara festival mood that is all over in the air.

Generally, audience cherish each move of Mahesh Babu; he is a feast for their eyes. SPYder being his biggest movie ever, as he himself declared, expectations are too high. Some even expect SPYder to break Baahubali 2 records.

Besides over 10,000 theatres across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and other metro cities in India, the movie hit over 800 screens across US, which is huge for an Indian movie in the US. Only three films released on 300 or more screens in US so far and they were – Dilwale, Dangal, and Baahubali: The Conclusion - all big hits. Dangal and Baahubali: The Conclusion are among the highest grossers so far.

AR Murugadoss is no doubt a super director - his blockbusters list includes Suriya’s Ghajini, Chiranjeevi’s Stalin, Aamir Khans’ Ghajini, Ajith’s Dheena, Vijaykanths’s Ramana, Vijay’s Thuppakki and Katthi, Akshay Kumar’s Holiday-A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, among others.

SPYder, A Never Before Experience

Reviews from the US, as it released a few hours ahead of local release, were positive and encouraging for the audience here. When the movie opened here this morning, audience were mesmerized.

The mood for a spy-thriller is set right from the title card with never-before kind of ambiance and the background score is immersing.

SPYder Storyline

Spyder is about catching a psycho killer. Shiva (Mahesh Babu) takes up the mission to catch Bhairavudu (SJ Surya) using technology. Mahesh enthrals audience in each frame of the movie and heroine Rakul Preet Singh provides relief wherever the story gets serious. Priyadarshi Pullikonda and RJ Balaji as Mahesh friends did well.

Harris Jayaraj’s background score is the biggest asset to the film and CG work to create panic in hospital collapsing scene is excellent.

Spyder first half has lot of nativity issues and moves bit slow at times though the story offers freshness. Mahesh, an Intelligence Bureau officer in Hyderabad, gets to know public panic and their troubles through his software. Mahesh and his friends Priyadarshi and RJ Balaji finally find out the man and mystery behind serial killings and other panic being created among people and finally eliminates the villain.

Shiva's methods to track down the killer of a young girl and his accomplice, and the chilling flashback portion of the villain add the film its verve.

The protagonist of Spyder, Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is content to work in a job for which he is over-qualified. He wants to help people, even if he isn't acknowledged for it. This is why he is working in the surveillance wing of the intelligence bureau, as part of a team that taps calls.

Shiva listens to and records people's phone calls with his own software, despite being instructed not to do so. However, he comes across some startling facts about a man and plays saviour to people who need help. The one call that he receives leads him to the villain, a man who is the exact opposite of him - the very definition of evil, who takes pleasure in the wails of people.

Not very different from the run-of-the-mill storylines though, SPYder offers a freshness with the technology element and Mahesh's presence itself. He breathes enough life into the character to entertain audience to the fullest.

First song “Boom Boom” has typical Mahesh dance moves. Second song, “Achcham Telugandham” is shot well showing some story running between Mahesh and Rakul. Third song “Ciciliya Ciciliya” is also shot well in exotic foreign locales.

Mahesh Babu is a superstar in Telugu but a debutante in Tamil. So, the diversification between the two markets is quite evident and Mahesh took all care and caution not to go overboard as Tamil industry has its own superstars.

Telugu audience are not going to judge a Mahesh Babu movie purely by its content as he is a darling of the masses. They want to ignore whatever the shortcomings which some critics pointed out.

The movie was well received by Tamil audience as well creating another huge platform for Mahesh Babu.

Finally, going by a mixed reaction of the audience, we are excited to give a 4/5 to SPYder.
