Spurned Lover Stabs Girl To Death Before Her Engagement

Hyderabad: A 22-year-girl was stabbed to death by her former lover on Saturday in Yadadri, just one day prior to her engagement.

The victim Gayatri, a native of Yadgaripalli in Yadagirigutta had completed her graduation and was living with her parents. She met the accused G. Srikanth (23) from the same village six months ago. He was working in a private company in Bhongir. The duo became friends and after sometime, Srikanth proposed to her. When she refused, he started harassing her.

Unable to bear the harassment, Gayatri informed the matter to her parents, who took up the issue with the community elders. Srikanth was counseled and the elders warned him to stay away from her. But his harassment continued.

Meanwhile, Gayatri’s parents fixed her marriage with a man from Hyderabad and the enagagement was scheduled for Sunday. On Saturday her father went to work at Yadadri temple and her mother left for some field work. On learning that she was alone at home, Srikanth barged into the house and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife. Neighbours, who heard Gayatri screaming, rushed to her home and found her in a pool of blood. They shifted her to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

After the incident, the accused surrendered to the police. They registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
