Shikhar Dhawan Out Of World Cup 2019 After Injury

Hyderabad: In a major setback to the Indian cricket team, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan on Tuesday has been ruled out of ICC Men's World Cup 2019 for three weeks due to a fractured thumb.

He was hit on his left thumb during the last India's match against Australia at the Oval on Sunday. Although, he was injured, he went on to score 117 off 109 balls against the Aussies.

Dhawan underwent precautionary scans to determine the extent of injury on his swollen left thumb and the reports revealed that he has a fracture.

Thereby, he will not be able to play India's upcoming matches in the month of June against teams New Zealand, Pakistan West Indies, England and Afghanistan. India will be playing against New Zealand at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named man of the match for his fantastic innings and his rule out comes as a major blow to the Indian cricket team.

It is now likely that either Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant could be Dhawan's replacement.

The Men in Blue have been in fantastic form during the current World Cup, having won their first two fixtures against South Africa and Australia.
