ICC World Cup 2019: What Is In Store For India?
By Thanmay Manohar
Cricket is such a funny game. What techniques prove to be striking in one match get neutralized in other matches owing to the pitch and weather conditions! Frankly speaking, it is all about handling pressure and being consistent in their performances. As fitness is the key mantra for present-day cricketers, they must ensure that they are not injury prone at any point of time. Though India is a strong contender, they can never take things for granted. They have to toil hard to reap the harvest and for their dreams to fructify. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya will be India's trump cards to name a few. But victory is the outcome of team work which is a well established fact that holds good for any team. IPL has proved to be a wake-up call for the under-performers but considering pitch and weather conditions abroad, no one can rate a player based on the local tournament contributions.
Though the selection committee has taken all care in selecting a well-balanced band of classic players for the upcoming World Cup matches, there seem to be some shortcomings in some players of this squad after watching their performances in the recently concluded IPL tournament. Perhaps this may act as a blessing in disguise for, they can introspect and rectify their flaws and come back with a bang after turning over a new leaf. India’s top order needs to fire without depending on Virat Kohli alone to bring on his magic. Similarly, lower down, over-dependence on Dhoni can be a cause for concern.
The present Indian team selected for world cup is the outcome of a reasonably well- worked out strategy to put together a good side for the World Cup. They have creamed out the best lot after watching them for a period of time. However, it remains to be seen if this team will perform to our expectations.
