Sonia Gandhi admitted to ICU

The Congress president collapsed and sustained a fracture during the roadshow on Tuesday. Though in ICU, doctors described her condition as stable.

New Delhi: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in New Delhi from the Army (Research and Referral) Hospital late on Wednesday.

The Congress president was taken ill during a road show in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi on Tuesday. According to SGRH bulletin, “She continues to be dehydrated and has electrolyte imbalance but is stable. Further investigations are being conducted. She is advised rest.” Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were by her side most of the day. Her son-in-law Robert Vadra also visited the hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished her a speedy recovery.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag visited the Congress President at the R&R Hospital during her stay.
Gandhi has been shifted to Gangaram Hospital as she had earlier undergone treatment there, sources said.

Earlier on Wednesday, AICC media cell in-charge Randeep Surjewala had said that she is stable and is recovering under medical supervision.
