Six GITAM students 'missing' at sea
A pleasure trip to the Rishi Valley beach in the port city of Visakhapatnam proved fatal for a group of engineering students on Wednesday afternoon as six of them, including three girls, feared drowned while taking a swim in the sea.
According to police, a group of students from GITAM's went on a pleasure trip to Sai Pritam Resorts near the Rishi Valley this morning. In the afternoon when they went for a swim in the sea they reportedly were suddenly caught in strong currents and swept away by a rising tides. The students immediately raised a hue for help and the fishermen, who were available there at that time, could save only one student.
The missing students are identified as G Peerti Reddy, B Susheel, Anurag Reddy of Warangal district, Anushia of Nalgoda, P Sai Nithin and P Sindhu -- all aged between 20 to 22. Two others are yet be identified.
Rahul Babu was rescued by the fishermen and others are yet to be traced. A search was on for the missing students, police said.
A helicopter is pressed into service to search for the missing students, who are feared drowned. Ace swimmers are also making frantic search for them.
