Six persons, including four children, got drowned in two separate incidents in Warangal and Nellore districts of Andhra Pradesh today, police said.

Three children -- L Sandhya (13), her brother L Tarun (10) and their distant relative G Naresh (12) -- went for swimming at a lake in Rangapuram village of Kesamudram mandal in Warangal district and got drowned, police said.

"The lake area was filled with water following recent rains and these children went for bathing there. As they entered the water, they slipped and drowned even as one girl Mounika was rescued by a person," Mahabubabad (Rural) Circle Inspector Sateesh said.

The bodies of the three children were retrieved and sent for post-mortem.

In another incident, one Srinivasulu and his wife Nagratna and their 13-year-old niece Swathi got drowned after they entered the Pennar river near Somasila reservoir in Nellore district for swimming this afternoon, a police officer said.

Their bodies were fished out and sent for post-mortem.

Srinivasulu, who works as coolie in Bangalore, had come down to Somasila village along with his wife to attend a marriage three days ago, the officer said.
