Six Charred To Death As Fire Rages In Cooler Godown

* The deaths are mainly because the owner locked the employees from outside. As a result, they could not escape.

* There were seven employees at the time of the mishap. They are from Bihar and Chhattisgar.

* Six bodies have been recovered.

In a tragic incident, at least six workers were burnt alive and one more went missing as a raging fire broke out in an air cooler manufacturing unit in the Attapur near Rajendranagar in Hyderabad.

There were seven workers in the Attapur area factory during the time of the fire. Four charred bodies were recovered initially and two more were recovered in a subsequent search.

The deceased are from Bihar and Chhattisgarh. Four of them have been identified as Saddam, Ayub, Shahrukh and Irfan. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short-circuit.

According to the police the owner had locked the factory from outside, making it difficult for the workers to escape.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The police have since arrested factory owner Pramod Kumar.

Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday condoled the death of workers in the incident.
