Shopkeeper Held For Selling Shoes In Box Painted With National Flag
Jaipur: A shopkeeper in the city was arrested on Monday for selling shoes wrapped in a cardboard box with a Tricolor picture pasted on it.
According to the police, Mahesh, a shopkeeper of a shoe shop in City Mall in Kota was selling shoes in a box with Tricolor on it. Kranti Tiwari, a visitor to the shop lodged a complaint with the police for insulting the national flag. The police rushed to the mall and registered a case under section 2 of Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. They also seized the shoe boxes.
"Under the act, a person who is found guilty is liable to be in jail for a term of one year," the police officer said. "It was found that the shopkeeper had purchased the shoes from Delhi. We have also sought phone numbers and address of the wholesaler from whom he procured the shoe boxes," the officer added.
"We have summoned the shopkeeper and will question him further. He would be sent to remand after investigation," the officer said.
