Shaurya Chakra for Telangana Police Constable

Hyderabad: A constable of the Telangana police’s Counter Intelligence Unit, Kukadapu Srinivasulu, was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for exceptional bravery and alertness in confining a terrorist, despite being critically injured.

Srinivasulu held the terrorists during an operation at Bengaluru in January 2016.

Srinivasulu apprehended the terrorist during an operation in Bengaluru on January 23, 2016. The constable along with three other policemen raided Alam Zeb’s den at Doddanagamangala in Bengaluru and when constable Srinivasulu tried to nab Alam Zeb, the terror operative stabbed him in the stomach with a knife. However, the brave constable did not let Alam Zeb escape till backup arrived. Afridi alias Mohammed Rafiq was wanted in several blast cases including the Bengaluru church blast. The three other cops who were part of the team received Police Medals for Gallantry.

The Shourya Chakra has been awarded to 14 persons this year, of whom 12 are from the armed forces and two, including Srinivasulu, are policemen. The other police officer, Atu Zumvu, is a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Kohima, Nagaland.
