Sasikala To Be Sent To Jail; Prohibited From Contesting Elections For 10 Year

New Delhi: AIADMK chief VK Sasikala has been convicted by the Supreme Court in a disprortionate assets case. Delivering the judgment on Tuesday, the constitutional bench comprising Justices PC Ghose and Amitava Roy, set aside the Karnataka High Court's judgment that relieved Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran and sentenced all the accused to four years of imprisonment.

The judges also prohibited Sasikala from contesting in elections for 10 years and ordered her to surrender to police immediately.

With the Supreme Court verdict coming in the midst of high voltage political drama in Tamil Nadu, caretaker Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam’s journey to full time CM became clear. However, the supporters of Sasikala got agitated with the judgment and tensions were erupting in Chennai and other parts of the state.
