Rs7,000-Cr Centre Funding For 11 Pending Irrigation Projects In Telangana
Hyderabad: Telangana’s tripartite agreement with National Water Development Authority ( NWDA) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will ensure release of Rs7,000 crore funding support from the Centre for 11 pending irrigation projects in the state.
The Centre is keen on completion of the works on 99 pending irrigation projects across the country with an estimated investment of Rs 77,595 crore.
Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Tuesday signed a tripartite agreement with the Centre and Nabard in New Delhi. As part of the tripartite agreement, Nabard will disburse the loan amount to the State.
The list of Telangana projects includes Devadula, Rajiv Bhima lift irrigation, Komaram Bhim, and second phase of Sriram Sagar. Telangana will also get Rs 2,000 crore as central fund under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY) and Rs. 5,000 crore as loan from Nabard.
Out of the 99 pending projects in the country, 11 irrigation projects in Telangana will get the funding support. The list of Telangana projects includes Devadula, Rajiv Bhima lift irrigation, Komaram Bhim, and second phase of Sriram Sagar.
Telangana will also get Rs 2,000 crore as central fund under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY) and Rs. 5,000 crore as loan from Nabard.
Speaking to the media after signing the agreement, Harish Rao said: “It is a good step that the government is entering into the tripartite agreement with NWDA and Nabard due to which Telangana will get funds for completing the pending irrigation projects. We expect that the funds will be released by the end of this month.”
Later in the day, Harish Rao met water resources minister Uma Bharathi and discussed various issues including the unresolved dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over Krishna River water sharing. Harish Rao also met separately Union ministers including Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Seetharaman.
