Rs 542 crore power surcharge burden on consumers

The Electricity Regulatory Commission on Saturday issued orders accepting the proposal of levying surcharge of Rs 542 crore on the power consumers in the State.

The Discoms have submitted proposals for collecting Re.1/- per unit. The Commission reduced it to 0.49 paise. The Discoms made proposals for Rs 1137 crore surcharge for the final quarter of 2012-13. The ERC took a decision allowing the Discoms to impose surcharge of Rs 542 crore after holding consultations with power consumers.
