Rohit's suicide: Rahul Gandhi blames VC, Bandaru - Sakshi Post

Blaming the vice-chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for the death of research scholar Rohit Vemula, AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi said the conditions for the suicide of Rohit were created by UoH vice-chancellor and the Union Minister.

Rahul Gandhi, who visited the UoH on Tuesday morning, said: "The vice chancellor has not right to remain here. He did not have the decency and dignity to meet the mother of the victim. It is an insult to the students and the institution."
Strongly endorsing the demand that compensation be paid to Rohit's family, he said everyone responsible for the incident has to be punished. He said there was a need for law that helps prevent Centre's interference in the institutions like the UoH. He said every student should have freedom to express himself and that precisely is the idea of university. He said the institution has used its power to crush the students. "The student felt so much pain that he had no option but to end his life,"he said.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi arrived at Begumpet airport on Tuesday morning and went straight to the UoH. He was accompanied by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh. He went to the pylon erected in memory of Rohit and offered floral tribute to his portrait. Rahul Gandhi met Rohit's grieving mother Radhika and consoled her. Later he spoke to the agitating students to know about the developments on the campus.
The deceased student, Rohit Vemula, was among the five research scholars who were suspended by UoH in August last year and also one of the accused in the case of assault on a student leader.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in view of Rahul Gandhi's visit. Earlier, some ABVP workers staged a protest at Begumpet airport. The police promptly arrested them.
