Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) cautioned the people against venturing out of their homes unless emergency, in view of incessant rains.

The Met department predicted more rains for the city on Monday night. In view of the already overflowing nalas and flooding low-lying areas, the GHMC issued the advisory to the citizens. The civic authority has also placed emergency rescue personnel on standby in several areas to deal with contingencies.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the city on Monday evening taking by surprise vacationers returning after the festival holidays. Several city residents returning from festival holidays by road were stranded at MGBS and LB Nagar. Cabs and autorickshaws jacked up prices without any delay with calb booking apps displaying surge pricing. Several passengers at MGBS bus terminal stayed-put at the bus station itself for several hours due to the rains.

Meanwhile, several colonies in Kukatpally, Bowenpally, Malkajgiri, ECIL, Mehdipatnam, Nallakunta, Santosh Nagar, Puranapul and Dilsukhnagar reported water-logging within minutes of the thunder-showers. Low lying areas were inundated as rain water started gushing from nalas.

However, being a national holiday preceded by festival holiday the serpentine traffic jams were not witnessed in some thoroughfares of the city. Traffic moved without any hindrance unlike in September when rains threw traffic out of gear.
