Rains In Hyderabad Terrify KTR
Hyderabad: Telangana IT and municipal Administration Minister K Taraka Rama Rao has expressed fear over the monsoon that is likely to hit Telangana state in the current month of June.
Speaking at People's Plaza near Necklace Road in Hyderabad after launching 70 mini sewer-jetting machines to clean manholes across Hyderabad city, KTR said that at present, the condition of Hyderabad is such that even a small rain can turn the city into a cesspool and give nightmarish experience to the denizens.
It is learnt that the initiative, which is the first of its kind in the country, is jointly funded by the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI). The Minister said that each machine was purchased at a cost of Rs 26 lakh.
KTR said that a whopping Rs 11,000 crore are required to revive the drainage system in the twin cities. It may be recalled that several civic workers had died while clearing the clogged manholes in various places in the city. This prompted the state government to get in sewer machines for clearing the flood water during rains.
