Rahul Gandhi not to visit kin of farmers who died during Cong rule
· Over 600 ryots died during Cong rule
For the first ever time after losing power in nascent Telangana and a truncated Andhra Pradesh, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is visiting Telangana. He will undertake a padayatra in Adilabad district, where Congress performed rather poorly in the elections.
While Rahul’s tour is meant to console the kin of the farmers who ended their lives in distress, questions are being raised about the choice of villages for his tour and the families chosen for the visit.
Rahul Gandhi will only be visiting the five farmers who died after the TRS government took over. He will not visit those farmers who died during the Congress rule. For instance, he would be launching his Padayatra from Koratikal village, where Muttapur Narsa Reddy, a farmer ended his life in October 2012, when Congress was ruling the state. Similarly, Dora Narsa Reddy, who died in 2013, also does not figure in Rahul’s tour for he died during the Congress rule. As many as 610 farmers died during the Congress rule, according to sources.
More interestingly, he would be walking through some of the richest villages known for their agricultural prosperity as part of his tour. For instance, Lakshmanchanda is a picture perfect of agricultural prosperity. The village development council runs a college to help the local students. Five farmers from this cash-rich region have died and Rahul will meet the hapless families of these dead farmers in a vast sea of farm prosperity.
In all the villages like Vadiyal, Koratikal,Rachapur, there are riches aplenty. The villages have strong and functional village development councils and many families have their wards earning money abroad. Thus, the visit will present a stark contrast.
