PV Sindhu Storms Into Korea Open Semis
Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-final of the Korea Open Super Series with a 21-19, 16-21, 21-10 win over Japanese rival Minatsu Mitani. The battle was a closely contested one and both the players tried every trick in the trade to stop the other player in her tracks.
In the first game, both players were tied at 19-19 at one stage, but Sindhu managed to take the game 21-19. In the second game Mitani fought back in a game that witnessed sea-saw battle. Initially Mitani had 5-1 lead, but Sindhu made it 5-4. At one stage, Sindhu led 11-9, but Mithani came back win the game 16-21.
Sindhu's superior fitness came to her rescue in the third game. She led 11-3 and did not give her opponent any chance to rally back. She finally took the game 21-10. Sindhu will now face the winner from the contest between Chinese He Bingjao and Korean Sung Ji Hyuan.
In the men's section, bad news continued to pour in as India's lone hope Sameer Verma lost to World No 1 Son Wan Ho. In the men's doubles section too, Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty lost to third seed Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda, 21-14, 17-21, 21-15.
