Protestors throw chilli powder at District Collector - Sakshi Post

Protests against the setting up of leather industry sparked off violence at Siddavaram village, a coastal village in Kota mandal of Nellore district on Wednesday.

The revenue officials held a meeting to elicit people’s opinion on the proposed of a leather unit. The villagers attacked the officials and expressed their anger against the international leather unit, which they said would create pollution problems in the area.

The Tahasildar of Kota mandal was detained by the villagers for some time in a bid to register their protest. When the District Collector reached the place to pursue the matter, the villagers sprinkled chilli powder at the Collector and the police personnel. Later, the District Collector B Sridhar cancelled the programme saying that the anguish of the local people would be reported to the Government.
