Pro-Tamil Group Calls Rajinikanth A Kannadiga; Resists His Political Entry 

A radical pro-Tamil group on Monday staged a protest against superstar Rajinikanth's possible political entry. The protest was staged in front of his residence in Chennai.

In view of the superstar's recent hints at taking the political plunge and his ongoing meetings with the fans, the Tamil group, believed to have been instigated by Vijayakanth, put up a big show calling Rajini a Kannadiga and hence unfit for any political position in the state.

The group has opposed the Thalaivar's idea of joining politics and said Kannadiga Rajini should stay away from Tamil politics.

Police threw a protective cordon outside Rajinikanth's Poes Garden house in Chennai as the group tried to lay a siege. Some of the protesters even taunted the cops guarding Rajini's residence.

Rajinikanth's remarks hinting that he may be readying plans to join politics has triggered huge speculations. Political parties have expressed different views over the his entry into politics.

"I lived in Karnataka for 23 years and in Tamil Nadu for 43 years. Although I came as a Marathi from Karnataka, you people nurtured me, made me a true Tamilian," Rajini had said last week.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Su Thirunavukkarasar said that he believes Rajinikanth will not join any national or regional political party but will only float his own party.

"As a friend who has known him for 35-40 years, think is he will not join any national or regional party. He will only float a new party," the TNCC chief said.

His remarks came amidst the BJP's efforts to woo him to join it. BJP president Amit Shah has already sent an open invitation into Rajini.
