Privileges Committee Sends Notices To 12 YSRCP MLAs
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly Privileges Committee on Tuesday sent notices to 12 MLAs of the YSR Congress Party asking them to present themselves before it on 25 and 26 of this month. The notices were sent in the context of the MLAs agitating in the Assembly for special status to Andhra Pradesh when the ruling party showed no inclination to pursue it.
The YSRCP MLAs had sought to bring pressure on the government on the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh when the legislative assembly met for the monsoon session earlier this year. Realising that the government was not intent on pursuing the issue the MLAs from the YSR Congress Party stalled the assembly to bring the needed urgency and focus on the issue.
Needless to say, the privileges committee issuing notices to 12 MLAs has not gone down well with the opposition party. Reacting to the notice Uruvakonda MLA YV Vishweshwar Reddy questioned the basis for issuing the notice.
MLA YV Vishweshwar ReddyIf it is for the sake of raising the special status issue that the MLAs have been issued notices then not just the 12 MLA’s but even if the entire opposition is suspended they would not stop fighting for it.
Vishweshwar Reddy also raised the issue of the Assembly continuing to ignore their party's pleas to disqualify the turncoat MLAs under the Anti-defection law and questioned the ethical standards of the privileges committee when Jyothula Reddy continues to function on it when he was replaced by Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.
He alleged that MLC Payyavula Ravi was criticizing YS Jagan only with the intention of scoring a minister's post. Vishweshwar Reddy in turn criticised the government for not making the time or sparing the efforts to reach out to the families of farmers who have committed suicide in Anantapur.
