Pooja Thakur leads Guard of Honour for Obama
Women leading Guard of Honour is a rare opportunity and its a treasurable memory to lead for a historic event.
Wing Commander Pooja Thakur of IAF leaded the Guard of Honour for Obama , who came to India as first chief guest of Republic Day celebrations. Wing Commander Thakur walked Obama for the inspection of the tri-service guard of honour. This comes as 'nari shakti' (woman power) is the theme for Republic Day parade this year.
This Jan 26 will also be the first time when women contingents of the army, air force and navy will walk down the Rajpath. Barack Obama was warmly welcomed by the President in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Later Modi introduced Obama to his cabinet ministers. We congratulate Pooja Thakur for her dignified lead.
Earlier, Obama was greeted with a 21-gun salute at the President House. Manohar Parrikar, Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley & Rajnath Singh were in attendance for ceremonial reception for US president. Pooja Thakur after the Guard of Honour, escorted the guest to forecourt. "Grateful for the extraordinary hospitality, a great honour" US President Barack Obama at Rashtrapati Bhawan expressed his gratitude.
