Case Filed Against Kodela For Stealing Assembly Furniture
Guntur: Tulluru police filed a case on Saturday against former Andhra Pradesh assembly Speaker, Kodela Siva Prasada Rao in the matter relating to taking away furniture belonging to the assembly to his house and his son’s showroom.
Based on a complaint lodged in the matter by the section officer, Eswara Rao, a case was filed against Kodela under IPC section 409 and under section 414 against his son Kodela Sivaram, for being in possession of government property and utilising it in his showroom. It has been widely reported on how assembly furniture was shifted to Kodela’s house.
The former speaker’s attempts to defend his actions as having stemmed from lack of security for the furniture and his subsequent offer to repay the amount valued by the government, earned widespread criticism. On Friday, assembly officials searched Kodela’s son, Sivaram’s showroom in Guntur, identified and made an inventory of furniture belonging to the assembly.
Officials estimated the worth of furniture belonging to the assembly found at Gautam Hero showroom in Guntur owned by Kodela’s son, at rupees one crore. Following a complaint by Assembly officials about unauthorised use of assembly furniture, police booked a case and are investigating the matter.
