Decision To Construct New Secretariat, Assembly Buildings In Telangana Comes A Cropper

Hyderabad: In a significant development, the High Court directed the TRS government to refrain from demolishing Secretariat and the Erramanzil Palace until further orders are issued. The court observed that the matter was still sub-judice.

The court was hearing a lunch motion petition moved by legal heirs of the Palace on Monday. The plaintiff noted that how the government could go ahead with demolition plan until the decision on paying appropriate compensation to their 12 acres' land was pending from 1951 in courts.

Additionally, a social activist Mallaiah also filed a public interest litigation challenging the State government’s intention to shift the Assembly and to raze down the heritage Erramanzil Palace. The hearing in this case is postponed as well until two weeks.

Stating that the current Secretariat and Assembly buildings are unable to serve the intended purposes, the TRS government has been pushing its decision to construct new buildings, both for Assembly and Secretariat against the backdrop of vehement opposition.
