Kodela’s Son And Daughter In the Soup For Extortion And Land Grabbing

Vijayawada: Son of former AP Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, Kodela Sivaram has been booked for allegedly threatening those applying for building permits and extorting money from them. His personal assistant Gutta Prasad and an engineer Unnam Venugopal Rao has been booked.

Police told a leading English daily that the case was registered following a complaint by one of the victims.

The three had asked K. Mallikarjuna Rao of Ravipadu Rs 17 lakh for building permit. Police said that Rao had met engineer Venugopal and had applied for permission, paying the fees and also bribed him. But allegedly Rao did not give the permission.

In another case Kodella Siva Prasad Rao's daughter Dr Punati Vijayalakshmi was allegedly involved in a case of extortion and land grabbing in Guntur district.

Arvapalli Padmavathi of Ramireddy Peta in Narsaraopeta owned one acre of prime land in Kesanupalli, that she had purchased from P Marayya of Ravipadu in 2002. Both Vijayalakshmi and her brother Sivaram in a bid to usurp the lands, had created disputes and charged innocent people a kind of a levy called ''K tax''. She tried to collect Rs15 lakh under this levy . However, when she started harassing for another Rs 5 lakh, the woman had no choice but to approach the police for help and filed a case.

It is reported that both the brother and sister indulged in several land disputes during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regime and tried to grab prime land and properties belonging to several people in the region.
