Amaravati: YSRCP MLA from Bheemunipatnam Muttamsetti (Avanthi) Srinivasa Rao was sworn-in as the cabinet minister in the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Avanthi Rao, 52-year-old, is the founder chairman of Avanthi Educational Society that runs about 14 engineering, pharmacy, degree and PG colleges in the state, catering to more than 20,000 students.

Rao served as MLA of Bheemunipatnam from 2009 to 2014 and as Anakapalle MP from 2014 to 2019.

Speaking to the Hindu, he said that he moved from the MP position to MLA, mainly to contest and win from Bheemunipatnam and serve the State as Minister. He cited that the TDP was reluctant to listen to his requests and for this reason he left the party.

Born in Eluru, Rao started his political career with the Praja Rajyam Party in 2009 and later moved to the TDP in 2014 and again moved to YSRCP in 2019.

He also served as Member of the Rules Committee; Member, Standing Committee on Industry; and Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of HRD.

The YSR Congress inducted 25 new ministers on Saturday into the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's Council of Ministers in Andhra Pradesh in what they termed as "socially-inclusive Cabinet."

In line with his electoral promise, YS Jaganmohan Reddy gave Cabinet berths to seven legislators from the backward classes, five from the Scheduled Castes, one each from the Scheduled Tribes and Muslims, and four each from the Kapu and the Reddy communities.

State Governor E S L Narasimhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers at a glittering public function adjacent to the Secretariat at Velagapudi in capital Amaravati.
