EC Appoints Former tax official as Special Expenditure Observer For Telugu States

The use of money and liquor to woo voters is nothing new. To keep a check on the mal-practice, the Election Commission on Tuesday appointed former members of CBDT, Gopal Mukherjee as special expenditure obersver to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The former tax official has good knowledge of search and seizure operations. Former director-general, income-tax, (Investigation to Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland) Mr D.D. Goel was also posted.

The duo is expected to keep an eye on electoral machinery and take strict action should there be any complaints received via voter helpline 1950, C-VIGIL and other sources.
