Police torture drives financer to suicide

After being investigated in a murder case, Mallikarjuna Rao, a financier, committed suicide after accusing police of torturing him. The suicide note found at his place, the deceased has written that the police tortured him in a the murder case related to financier Chiranjeevi.

It is learnt that the chairman of the chit finance company, Gavara Chiranjeevi was murdered by unidentified persons in Akkayyapalam area in the heart of the city (Visakhapatnam) on August 11.
The 47-year-old, who had slept in his office adjacent to his house, was stabbed to death sometime between 2 am and 4 am.
Police suspect that the assailants were known to the victim, as they did not appear to have entered his house.
